Music from Home

With cancellations due to COVID-19, here are some options for keeping your music skills sharp from home.

Escape Rooms: Designed by a band director, these are online/virtual "escape rooms" in Google Forms with a band theme. See how fast you can solve the puzzles.

The Rhythm Trainer: use to hone your rhythmic skills. Adobe Flash Player is required to use this website.

Leader of the Band: Free online leadership courses, with a band emphasis.

Recordings for Practice: This page contains all the recordings I've made for you (high school band) so far this year, and also links to the J.W. Pepper recordings of "Land of the Thunder Dragon" and "Gateway March." I encourage you to practice with the recordings to avoid losing ground on what we've worked on so far this year!

Drumbit is an online drum machine where you can create your own drum beat patterns. It's kind of fun - give it a try! Maybe turn on a recording of your favorite song, match the tempo, and see if you can create a drum beat that goes along with it.

Simple note-naming game, making words out of treble clef music notes.

Another note-naming game. This one requires flash player to work.

Note-naming game with customizable parameters (see the settings cog for your options) that plays the pitch when you choose the correct note name.

Notation sight-reading challenge that times how long it takes you to name the notes. You can change between individual pitches and chords. You can also link to an ear training page from the same website, where you hear a pitch and name it.

Music note flashcards which you can use in any clef. (Great opportunity to learn to read a new clef if you need a challenge!)

My Singing Monsters: a free downloadable game from the App Store or Google Play which allows you to build songs by adding singing monsters with different parts that go together. After you get to level 7, you gain access to Ms. O'Dell's favorite part: Composer Island, where you can completely create your own melodies from scratch by writing the notation for each monster. If you decide to play, feel free to add me so you can see my songs or show me yours! My BBID code is 70246353FB.

Flat.io is an online music notation software. Use the free version to write your own music, write out your part to a song to listen to (or someone else's part to play along with), or just to play around with different sounds and be creative.

UPDATE: Through July, we now have access to Flat for Education. Use the code FTU3 at princeton-rv.flat.io to access even more features.
